One woman from Devara Hubballi near Dharwad reportedly died of gastroenteritis at the district hospital in Dharwad on Monday.

While two others have been admitted to hospital, there were reports of about 20 people from Devara Hubballi suffering from diarrhoea.

However district hospital authorities maintained that gastroenteritis was not the cause of death. District Health Officer N.M. Angadi told The Hindu that according to the report of the district surgeon the cause of death was cardiac arrest.

He said that Renavva Rajaput (45) who died at the district hospital on Monday morning was admitted with symptoms of gastroenteritis. She was responding to medication and was recovering. But she died of cardiac arrest, he said.
