The 25-year-old woman, who has accused an Assistant Professor of Mangalore University of sexual harassment, staged a protest in front of the Commerce block of the university here on Wednesday.

The woman, who has filed a complaint against Assistant Professor Vedava, urged the latter to marry her, during her protest. She held a placard demanding justice.

Earlier, Dr. Vedava submitted his explanation to university Registrar P.S. Yadapadithaya in response to a notice issued by the latter, following a representation by the woman. Mr. Yadapadithaya said that Dr. Vedava admitted that he knew the woman and had expressed to her his intent to marry her. Dr. Vedava has, in his explanation, denied having any physical relationship with the woman.

Meanwhile, the Bantwal Town Police are awaiting orders of Senior Civil Judge, Bantwal, on the application by the Konaje Police seeking transfer of the case to the former. The Konaje Police received the representation of the woman submitted to Police Commissioner accusing Dr. Vedava of sexual harassment and registered a First Information Report on October 16.

The FIR was then sent to the Senior Civil Judge Court with a request to transfer the case to Bantwal Town Police.
