Two arrested on gold smuggling charge

Customs sleuths from the Air Intelligence Unit on Thursday arrested two persons on the charge of smuggling 1,660.75 grams of gold into the airport here by concealing it in their body.

According to a release, the sleuths, following careful profiling and screening, subjected the two passengers for interrogation.

These passengers had arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai.

The sleuths found that these passengers had concealed in their rectum rectangular pieces of gold.

These gold bars were packed in a carbon paper and placed in the rectum using a black adhesive tape.

The arrested persons were from Ulhasnagar of Thane, Maharashtra.

The release said that the sleuths arrested the passengers as they operated as a gang.

The two were produced before Principal Civil Judge (Senior Division) S.G. Gangadhar, who remanded them in judicial custody.
