Surathkal police have arrested three persons in connection with the attack on Abdul Salam, a newspaper vendor, in Katipalla near Surathkal on Wednesday.
The police gave the names of the accused as Mohammed Jabiullah (20), Noman (26) and Irshad (20). The police said the three persons had been accused of offences under Sections 448 (house trespass), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
A 10-member group assaulted Abdul Salam and ransacked his house near Muhiyuddin Juma Masjid in the early hours of Wednesday. The group followed Salam after a part of the bunting the alleged assaulters were tying, got damaged after it got entangled in his motorbike.
Man killed in accident
A 25-year-old man from Hosabettu was killed and a 50-year-old lawyer was injured when their motorcycle was hit by a car near Kodarba temple in Hosabettu on Tuesday night.
According to the Surathkal police, lawyer Gangadhar Hosabettu was riding the motorcycle with Basavaraju as the pillion rider.
The car following the motorcycle hit the rear end of the vehicle and the two got injured. They were admitted to a private hospital. Basavaraju succumbed to injuries on Wednesday. The police are yet to trace the car and its driver.
