With cricket fever at its peak as traditional rivals India and Pakistan get ready to play the semi-final match of the ICC World Cup in Mohali on March 30, members of the Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti took out a novel procession here on Tuesday to wish the home team success.
The procession, which began from Beedinagudde, passed through Sri Venkataramana Temple Road, Old Post Office Road, Diana Circle, Kavi Muddana Road and culminated at the Service Bus-stand. Six women members of Manjusha Mahila Chande Balaga were in the front beating “chandes” (traditional drums).
A large number of students from St. Mary's Industrial Training Institute, Chitpady, participated in the procession along with samiti members carrying a huge tricolour.
The students raised slogans such as “Jeetega, Jeetega, India Jeetega”.
Asked for their reaction, the students shouted in unison: “We want India to win. We know our team will give its best performance.”
General secretary of the samiti Nityananda Volakadu said: “We want our country to win the match. Above all, we want the spirit of cricket to prevail. The game is all about harmony.”
