Titus Antony Peris Bhatt, doing his postgraduate degree in health safety management, was on his way from Mangaluru to Mysuru to attend the semester exams when the accident occurred.
“I was two coaches behind the derailed coaches. Passengers did not panic and the railways arranged to bring us back to Subrahmanya Road within two hours,” he told The Hindu . He travelled by bus from Mangaluru to Mysuru later.
Ruchi, who was travelling to Mangaluru from Bengaluru, was angry with the railways for the delay in making alternative arrangements. “We reached Sakaleshpur around 3 a.m.. By the time we were provided with alternative arrangements it was 8.30 a.m.,” she added.
Purnima Suresh, who was travelling to Udupi, was not aware of what had happened till morning.
“All my plans for the day are spoiled,” she said.
