Officials directed to avoid delay in providing relief

Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande on Thursday directed officers to provide relief to those affected by the natural calamities without any delay. He was speaking during a review meeting of the Revenue Department at the District Offices Complex here.

Mr. Deshpande said that that the officers should consider those houses on which large trees had fallen as fully damaged instead of partially damaged.

The compensation should be given considering them as fully damaged houses instead of partially damaged ones.

During natural calamities, the officers should not wait for applications from the affected. Instead they should visits where damage had taken place and provide relief to the affected families. They should also take the opinion of local elected representatives, he said.

Mr. Deshpande also reviewed the work of Animal Husbandry, MESCOM, Forests, Public Works Department, Health and Drinking Water departments. He directed the officers to take measures to see that farmers did not face any problems. More rain was forecast during the remaining half of June and July, he said.

Officers should not leave headquarters without the permission of Deputy Commissioner during the monsoon.

He directed the Deputy Commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis, to hold a meeting of revenue officers in relation to monsoon once a week.

He also directed her to issue show-cause notices to the officers who did not attend the review meeting.

U.T. Khader, Housing and Urban Development Minister, sought details of the measures taken to prevent the spread of communicable diseases at the meeting.

Rohini, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, enumerated the steps taken to deal with health-related issues during the monsoon.

Ms. Francis gave a presentation on the measures taken by the district administration during the recent heavy rain.

K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said that people were finding it difficult to get the lands converted. He also sought special grants to the district to deal with the damages due to the heavy rains.
