Invigilator's action questioned

April 07, 2010 04:02 pm | Updated 04:02 pm IST - MANGALORE:

An SSLC examination invigilator at Ganapati High School here allegedly asked a few girls to remove their burka on Tuesday. He allegedly asked a girl to remove the burka on Monday also.

Campus Front India office-bearer Nasiruddin told The Hindu that parents of the girls were shocked by the attitude of the invigilator and had protested.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Dakshina Kannada, C. Chamegowda, confirmed that parents had brought this to his notice and he had spoken to the person in charge of the examinations at the high school.

He said he would ensure that this did not recur. Mr. Chamegowda said there was no need for those conducting examinations to ask girls to remove the burka as they had a right to wear it.

There was no need to ask them to remove it even for identification purposes.

The girls would be carrying hall tickets and invigilators could contact the teachers from respective schools if they had any doubts.
