Children went on a bicycle ride exploring the majestic heritage buildings of Mysuru as part of ‘Moment for Monument’, an initiative of Karnataka Tourism, on the occasion of Children’s Day here on Tuesday.

‘Moment for Monument’ had invited youngsters to uncover the history and mystery of Mysuru through the heritage ride, jointly organised by the Tourism Department in association with Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation and the district administration. Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep flagged off the ride.

On this one-hour tour, Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation guided the children as they explored the legacy left behind by leaders, kings and writers. They learnt the story of the Legislative Assembly and about the birth of democracy in Karnataka by visiting the DC’s office and Gordon Park.

They learnt about the birth of the Kannada literature movement by visiting Maharaja’s College, the centre of renaissance of Kannada, where stalwarts of literature worked as professors and lecturers. Students also discovered the hidden treasures of the Oriental Research Institute, where the Arthashastra was discovered and translated into English by Sri Shamasastry, a release from the organisers said.

The students also learnt about the architect of Mysuru palace and the heritage of other palaces in the city. The ride also covered the churches of colonial era, with the most prominent one being St. Phliomena’s Church.

The heritage ride aimed to create an environment fuelling curiosity and stimulating learning about history and heritage.
