Governor inaugurates various facilities at Yenepoya University

Stressing on women’s empowerment, Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala said here on Saturday that opportunities should be given to women to excel in all fields.

He was addressing a gathering at Yenepoya University, Deralakatte, after inaugurating various facilities.

He said that women were sincere in their work when compared to men and opportunities should be given to them to come up in life.

Mr. Vala said that he observed that of the gold medallists in universities in the State about 70 per cent were women. Earlier women did not have access to education but now they have and more opportunities should be created.

The Governor inaugurated advanced comprehensive clinical training and simulation centre, centre for systems biology and molecular medicine, stem cells and regenerative medicine centre and robotic surgery unit at the university.

He said that the country had potentiality to develop advanced technologies in various sectors, only opportunities would have to be created to showcase and use them.

The Governor said that surgical robotics was a new technology that held significant promise. “I am given to understand that these types of surgeries are more precise, minimally invasive and highly innovative and reliable,” he said.

The Governor said that knowledge and wealth should be used for the welfare of society. Persons having humanity work for the growth of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Yenepoya Abudulla Kunhi, Chancellor, Yenepoya University, said that simulation training in graduate and postgraduate curriculum should facilitate more ethical training with least harm and discomfort to patient.

Simulation-based training helped to mitigate errors and maintain safety in medical field where there was zero tolerance for any deviation from the standard protocols, he added. Stem cells and regenerative medicine centre acted as a focal point for information and stem cell research activities in the campus and collaborative activities with various institutes in the country.

The centre for systems biology and molecular medicine has been established jointly with Institute of Bioinformatics, Bengaluru.

Ministers B. Ramanath Rai and U.T. Khader, and B.A. Mohiuddin Bawa, MLA, and Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University K. Byrappa were present.
