Car driver booked for culpable homicide

The Police have booked a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Aneesh John, who reportedly rammed his car against an autorickshaw driver in an inebriated state here on Sunday night.

A communiqué from the Traffic Police here said that the accused has been booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. A jurisdictional court has sent him to judicial custody till August 18, the communiqué added.

John reportedly rammed his car against the autorickshaw that was parked off Ambedkar Circle while coming from Bunts Hostel Circle, killing Praveen Kumar and injuring two other autorickshaw drivers.

While he was found to be intoxicated, liquor bottles were found inside the car. Results of a blood sample test are yet to arrive, the police added.
