With mofussil, city and service buses set to remain off the road because of the March 3 bandh called by various organisations, commuters in the district may have to face some hardships on Monday.

Though the Dakshina Kannada District Private Bus Owners Association has not called for buses to stop services, the president Nelsen Pereira said “services will be affected if groups stop movement of buses”.

However, Mr. Pereira also said that as the drivers feared damage to the vehicles there was less chance of any bus movement on Monday.

Former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty, who is spearheading the agitation, said there has been overwhelming support from educational institutions, bus operators and organisations namely the Social Democratic Party of India, Aam Aadmi Party and Janata Dal (United).

In the light of the bandh many schools and colleges have declared a holiday. But there will be no change in the schedule of the examinations for students of Class 10 in CBSE schools which will start from March 3. “There are three centres in the city where examinations are being held. We will make all necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of examinations,” assured Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim. Around 1000 students from CBSE schools in district will be writing the examination.
