An 11-year-old girl was found dead in her house in Padu village in Bantwal taluk on Monday afternoon.

The Bantwal Rural police said that Poojashree (11), who was studying in class 5 in B.A. School in Thumbe, had returned to her house along with her elder brother, who also studies in the same school.

After having her lunch, Poojashree went to her room to sleep.

The police said Poojashree did not come out of her room till evening and this worried her mother.

No response

She knocked the door and then broke it open after getting no response.

She was shocked to find her daughter hanging from the roof.

The police said Poojashree might have been affected by the suicide of an elderly woman, who was staying as a tenant on the first floor of their house, a few weeks ago.

Poojashree was the daughter of Prasad, who runs a small jewellery shop in Thumbe.
