Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University K. Byrappa said on Saturday that colleges should go for “academic and administrative audit” by external experts once in three years.
It is for ensuring quality in all aspects of academic activities.
Addressing students at the sixth graduation ceremony of St. Aloysius College, an autonomous one, he asked self-financing colleges to get accredited by the NAAC.
“Universities and colleges should realise the need for quality education and come forward with an action plan for improving quality in higher educational institutions,” he said.
Mr. Byrappa said that vocational and diploma courses needed to be made more attractive to facilitate specialised programmes offered to students. Incentives should be provided to teachers and researchers to make these professions more attractive for the younger generation.
“Private universities must be able to promise a good future to students and make sure that they fulfil all of their promises,” he said.
There were about 700 graduates with 62 being rank holders. Stanislaus D’Souza, president, Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society and Provincial, Karnataka Jesuit Province presided over the function.
