A loco-pilot was injured after unidentified youths pelted stones at him when he was driving the Sengottai-Madurai Passenger here on Friday.

Sources said that Savarimuthu (56), who was manning the train, was pelted with huge stones by three youths when he was crossing the Subramaniapuram area in the city. Members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), who rushed to his aid, said that the train was travelling at a speed of around 80 kmph when Mr. Savarimuthu was assaulted. The stones broke the look-out glass and hit him, injuring his nose and face.

After the train reached the Madurai station, he was taken to the railway hospital and given treatment. Police officials visited him at the hospital and also inspected the spot near Subramaniapuram.
