Three people, including a woman, were arrested in two different cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Madurai city police limits on Thursday.

In the case reported in All Women Police Station (South) in the city, the victim, an eight-year-old girl residing with her grandmother in Palanganatham, was allegedly subjected to sexual exploitation for the past few months by her maternal uncle B. Maria Antony (31).

When the girl reported the incident to her grandmother B. Leela (69), mother of Maria Antony, she allegedly threatened the girl not to report the incident to anyone. Police sources said that, unable to bear the torture, the girl reported the incident to her mother, when she visited her.

The girl’s mother reported the incident to the police, following which both Maria Antony and Leela were arrested.

Another case was reported in Thirunagar police station in which an 11-year-old boy in Balasubramanian was allegedly molested by Kannan (30), a resident of Silaiman, who came for plumbing work in the area. Based on a complaint by the boy’s family, the Thirunagar police arrested Kannan.
