The State government cannot provide jobs to all unemployed youth who have registered with the employment offices. They should equip themselves to face tough competition and to become employed or strive hard to become entrepreneurs and job providers, said Collector N. Venkatachalam.

Inaugurating a career guidance programme held here on Friday, he said that 82 lakh persons in the State had registered their names with the employment office of which 1.5 lakh were from the district. In the present scenario, it would not be possible for the government to provide jobs to all those who had registered their names with the employment office.

The State government has been conducting training sessions to help candidates prepare for various competitive exams including bank exams, teacher recruitment and central government exams. Candidates would be tutored and trained on how to prepare for exams and face interviews. Shortcuts to solve problems in these exams quickly would also be given, he added.

Meanwhile, technical and management experts had also been guiding youngsters on how to become entrepreneurs. Management tips were being given and they were briefed about opportunities and potential business areas through the career guidance programmes and entrepreneur skill development training programmes. The government had also been offering loan ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹1 crore to unemployed youth under NEEDS scheme for establishing small and medium enterprises. Youths should utilise the opportunities and take part in career guidance programme training to come up in their lives, he pointed out.
