Six persons, including four children, were killed on the spot and five others grievously injured when the car in which they were travelling collided head on with a lorry on the Madurai bypass road near Sipcot here on Saturday morning.
According to police, Sundaresan (36) and Paramasivam (38) were on their way to Kulaiyankarisal, their native village in Tuticorin district, to celebrate Pongal festival. They were running a grocery shop in Tirupur. The deceased were identified as Ponsudha (35) ,wife of Sundaresan, Deepika (3), daughter, Deepak Akash (1), son, Paramasivam (38), Madhavan (5), his son, and Darshini (2). Sundaresan (36), Sandhya (29), wife of Paramasivam, Priyadarshini (2), her daughter, Sasi (22), son of Jeba Selvaraj, Aththimarappatti, and Ramakrishnan (24), son of Tamilselvan, Muthaiyapuram, who were injured were taken to a hospital in Tuticorin. Sipcot police have registered a case.
