Teachers should take a lead in sensitising students to the importance of maintaining cleanliness, Governor K. Rosaiah said here on Saturday.
He was delivering the chief guest address at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of TVS Higher Secondary School.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachh Bharat” campaign aims at keeping India clean.
“Discipline and cleanliness should be maintained throughout one’s life. Teachers should play a pivotal role in nation building. Guiding the students to maintain cleanliness, instilling in them a sense of responsibility and punctuality is necessary,” the Governor said.
Mr. Rosaiah congratulated the students of TVS Higher Secondary School for bringing laurels in sports in the national and international arena, and appealed to them to be sincere, dedicated and work with a mission to reach their goals.
“Today we see dwindling of values and increase of cynicism. It is high time the educational institutions, teachers and parents join hands to instil patriotic fervour, humaneness and compassion in students,” the Governor noted.
In his guest of honour address, Collector L. Subramanian said that students should be introduced to the history of world, the dynamics of society and its evolution and scientific knowledge.
“Knowledge without values is incomplete. Values provide anchor in life and ability to take decisions,” he stated. According to the Collector, schools should build the constructive ability in students through extracurricular activities and sports.
The Collector also released a souvenir to mark the golden jubilee. The Governor unveiled a plaque and honoured founder-correspondent of TVS Higher Secondary School, N. Sundaram, and former Headmasters P. Ebenezer Christdas, N. Ramani and H. Kalyanasundaram.
Shobana Ramachandran, president of Lakshmi Vidya Sangham, thanked the parents for their support to the school. She said the school was able to excel because of its dedicated workforce.
The daylong celebration saw a host of events organised by the school and “Spark,” the alumni association. A torch rally was organised by the association from the head office of TVS to the school. Several distinguished alumni also took part in the celebration.
