Revised voter list to be released after filing of nominations

The revised electoral roll will be released as per instructions from Election Commission of India after filing of nominations for the upcoming Assembly election gets over by April 29, said Madurai District Election Officer and Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao.

Interacting with the media here on Friday, Mr. Rao said that those who had applied for inclusion in the electoral roll, deletion or changes through Forms 6, 7, 8 or 8A until April 19 would will be accommodated in the revised roll.

He added that the district administration was also making efforts to issue Electors Voter Identity Cards (EPICs) to 5,829 persons who had applied for duplicate cards. “Moreover, distribution of voter slips to all voters in the electoral roll will be done about five to six days before the election,” he said.

Observers

Mr. Rao said that eight Expenditure Observers had have already arrived in the district to monitor the candidates’ expenditure in all the 10 constituencies. They will be assisted by an Assistant Expenditure Observer, deputed from Income Tax department, and an accounting team.

He added that apart from Expenditure Observers, five General Observers to monitor the overall conduct of the elections would reach the district soon.

Mr. Rao said that the first phase of training for 13,284 polling officials would commence from April 24 at ten centres in the district.

Vulnerable locations

The Collector said that 389 polling stations in 192 locations had been identified as vulnerable in the district. “As many as 24,759 voters are found to be in vulnerable areas; 3,417 potential intimidators have also been identified against whom police are initiating preventive action,” he said.

He said that special focus was being given to vulnerable voters with increased awareness campaigns and frequent visits by election officials. The

district administration would ensure all basic amenities, including drinking water, toilet and electricity, in all the polling stations. “All the polling stations will also be physically-challenged-friendly. Ramps will be erected and wheelchair provided in all polling stations,” he said.

“Considering the summer season in mind, shades will be erected in polling stations wherever necessary,” he added.
