Several groups of residents staged demonstrations at various points of the city on Sunday protesting against the spate of power cuts over the past few days. After an argument with police officials, the protestors congregated in front of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO)’s Madurai Regional Office near the Race Course here.
A few officials of the TANGEDCO came down to hold talks with the protestors, a majority of whom were residents of the K. Pudur area. Their main demands were that the power authorities should provide uninterrupted power at the night time as their children were suffering from mosquito bites and were unable to study also.
Following the talks, the TANGEDCO officials assured the protestors that they would convey their demands to their Head Quarters, who alone could take this decision. The agitators dispersed following the assurance.
