Police directive to printing press

August 22, 2011 10:03 am | Updated 10:03 am IST - MADURAI

All the printing press owners and flex board firms should mandatorily display their name with telephone numbers on the materials printed by them.

There have been recent instances, where the name of the printing press or other details as required by law were missing in the posters pasted in the city limits.

Police reports suggested that many outfits – political and caste based organisations – pasted posters, billboards and displayed flex board banners which had no details of the printing press or the flex board firms. This is a violation as per the Printing and Publications Act of 1867. The violators can be imposed a fine of Rs 2000 and imprisonment up to six months, a release issued by the City Police Commissioner P. Kannappan said here on Sunday.

“Display details”

Hence, the printing press owners and flex board firms should legibly display their name of the firm/company with telephone numbers.

Under no circumstances, they should encourage anonymity as it would attract punishment.
