Paperless mode of ticketing through SMS is under process: Railway DRM

As an additional feature in sparing passengers of express and passenger trains from standing in the queues to buy unreserved tickets, Southern Railway has enabled mobile app-based unreserved ticketing system at all automatic ticket vending machine (ATVM) centres.

Addressing the 62nd Railway Week celebration programme here on Wednesday, new Divisional Railway Manager Neenu Ittyerah said passengers could buy tickets using the mobile app and take out a printout of the ticket at an ATVM.

“The paperless mode of ticketing through SMS is under process and will be made functional soon,” she said. After downloading the mobile app and buying the tickets within a stipulated distance from the railway junction, the passengers could get the tickets printed at the ATVMs. The ATVMs had been installed at 27 places in Madurai division.

Ms. Ittyerah said that the total originating earnings of the division for the year 2016-17 was ₹. 738.08 crore. The passenger earnings was ₹. 463.17 crore as against ₹. 440.82 crore recorded last year.

Drive

Ticket checking drives against travelling without proper ticket fetched ₹. 2.66 crore last year, she added.

Outgoing Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Kumar Garg said that railway employees could not bask in the past glory but must take continuous steps in meeting the aspirations of the passengers with respect to improving amenities in trains and at stations. Additional Divisional Railway Manager P.V. Murali Krishna spoke. A total of 249 employees of the division were given awards along with 13 group awards and seven shields.
