Rajapalayam mourns the demise of Ramco Group Chairman

A pall of gloom descended on Rajapalayam as a large number of people paid their last respects to the Chairman of Ramco Group, P. R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, who passed away on Thursday night.

Shops and business establishments remained closed as a mark of respect for the doyen of textile industry, who had contributed much to the improvement of standard of life of people in Rajapalayam. The last rites were performed at a space behind Dhyana Mandapam on the campus of P. A. C. Ramasamy Raja Polytechnic College on Friday.

Born on July 4, 1935, the 81-year-old Rajha contributed immensely to industrial development of Virudhunagar district and was involved in a big way in philanthropic and religious activities. Minister for Milk and Dairy Development K.T. Rajenthra Balaji paid homage to the Ramco Group Chairman on behalf of the State government on Thursday night.

Leader of Opposition M. K. Stalin, accompanied by former Ministers K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu, called on the family members of Rajha on Friday afternoon.

Those who paid their respects to the departed leader of industry included S. Thirunavukkarasar, president, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee; G.K. Vasan, Tamil Manila Congress leader; Ministers R. B. Udhayakumar, M. C. Sampath and P. Thangamani; K. Pandiarajan of the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction and L. Ganesan, BJP MP.

Leaders of Indian industry joined the people of Rajapalayam in paying their homage.
