Printing industry had been witnessing a healthy growth in the past five years, said CP Paul, General Secretary of Indian Printing Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (IPAMA).
Addressing a day-long conference organised by Madurai District Offset Printers’ Association (MADOPA) here on Sunday, Mr. Paul said that printing machinery manufacturing sector alone registered a year-on-year growth of not less than 20 percent in the past five years.
Domestic sales of the printing machinery manufacturing sector had almost doubled from Rs. 6,800 crore in 2009-10 to Rs. 13,200 crore in 2014-15. “A similar trend is seen in exports which has gone up from Rs. 655 crore to Rs. 1,255 crore in the same period,” he said.
In the conference, titled ‘MADOPA Print 2020,’ which discussed the future of printing, Mr. Paul said that though digital technology was making a wave in the industry, offset printing would continue to thrive as it was more economical.
Ashok Pahwa from Hewlett Packard explained how digital technology was revolutionising the printing industry and how it could benefit printers and end-consumers.
Lauding IPAMA for its plan to exhibit high-end technology at the upcoming Drupa 2016 in Germany, the largest printing equipment exhibition in the world, the founder-president of South India Printers’ Association (SIPA), AMSG Ashokan, said that India was not lagging behind any of the developed countries in printing technology.
