The railway and general budgets would be neither useful to common man nor will they boost the economy. The general budget would benefit the corporate sector and multinational companies only, said Communist Party of India-Marxist State secretary G. Ramakrishnan.
Talking to press persons while taking part in a march at Ponnagaram near here on Friday, he said that the budget did not address health and education sectors, the most important areas for the development of the nation.
There was no announcement of measures that would improve the livelihood of the poor and downtrodden people. All concessions and benefits were meant for businessmen only, he said. The State government had been offering drought relief to farmers only. It should be extended to farm labourers also. More than 25 lakh poor people had applied for free house site pattas. The government should take efforts to distribute lands to them.
The march that commenced at Gudalur on Tuesday would end at Palani.
