The city police have registered four cases under Section 170 of the Indian Penal Code against as many organisations, the names of which have the words ‘Human Rights.’
The police said the Supreme Court had asked to remove ‘Human Rights’ from the names of private organisations in 2010 following which the Centre published an order in its gazette.
Grace time
The organisations that had registered their names were given grace time to remove those two words. Such organisations that continued to have ‘Human Rights’ in name were identified and cases booked for personating a public servant.
The cases had been registered by Tallakulam, South Gate, Thilagar Thidal and Karimedu police stations in the last two days.
