The Sellur police have arrested a retired head constable, Bose (68) of Sivaganga on charge of cheating a vegetable trader to the tune of R. 1 lakh on the promise of getting his son a government job.

The police said that Bose had taken the money in May 2016 from R. Baskaran (47), who runs a wholesale vegetable shop in Central Vegetable Market.

When Baskaran asked about the job, Bose had reportedly sought Rs. 50,000 more.

Based on his complaint, the Sellur police have booked the head constable for cheating.
