Two persons including a woman were held here on Tuesday when they allegedly attempted to sell a land with fake documents.
According to complainant P. Subramanian, councillor of ward 6 of Tirunelveli Corporation, one Sathish Kumar (33) of Tirupur, Shanthi (41) of Mela Karungulam near Melapalayam and two others approached him to sell 8 cents of land at Maharaja Nagar and handed over to him the copies of the land documents.
When Mr. Subramanian checked the genuineness of the documents, he found that they were fake. In the guise of buying the property, he asked the ‘sellers’ to come to the Sub-Registrar’s Office on the Collectorate premises.
As they came to the Collectorate on Tuesday evening, Mr. Subramanian took the original documents from them and checked the genuineness of the original documents once again with the help of a stamp paper vendor, who also confirmed his worst fears.
Mr. Subramanian immediately took Sathish Kumar and Shanthi to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajan, after two of their associates managed to escape even as the stamp paper vendor was checking the genuineness of the original documents. Further investigations are on.
