The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will use its 35 lakh members of ‘Ilaignar and Ilampengal Paasarai’ to woo young voters to its fold and make them vote for the party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a meeting of young men and women here on Wednesday, the paasarai State secretary and Tiruchi MP, P. Kumar, asked the youth brigade to interact with the 1.12 crore young voters in the State, in the age group of 18 to 29 years.
“Bring the younger generation to the party by explaining to them the achievements of the AIADMK Government,” he said.
Mr. Kumar asked the cadre to identify the beneficiaries of the State Government’s welfare schemes and make them vote for the AIADMK.
He said that the Government had introduced 54 welfare schemes for the people like distribution of free bicycles, laptops, incentives to higher secondary school students and women who benefited from the scheme of free gold for wedding.
Stating that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leadership was more family-centric, he said the DMK had adopted double standards in many important issues like the Tamil fishermen, opening up of retail to foreign direct investment, the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar issues.
“It is only Ms. Jayalalithaa who could ensure peace across the country,” he said.
Mr. Kumar said that priority would be given to the members of the paasarai while forming booth committees for the Lok Sabha elections.
Minister for Cooperation and Madurai urban district secretary of the party K. Raju said that the young brigade should put in hard work to make Ms. Jayalalithaa the Prime Minister, to make the country a super power.
Several responsibilities were waiting for the members of the paasarai in the party, he added.
‘Use SMS, e-mail’Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa asked the youth to make use of modern communication tools like SMS and e-mail to reach out to the voters.
State representative in New Delhi S.T.K. Jakkaiyan, party MLAs and several functionaries took part in the meeting.
