Over 38,000 candidates registered their names to participate in a three-day job fair to be conducted from October 22 at Kamaraj College here.
The fair is organised by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in commemoration of the 87th birthday of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The registered candidates were given identity cards at the registration camps being held at various taluks in the district for three days from September 17. Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan said that the job fair would benefit students and those without any gainful employment.
Candidates in the age group of 18 to 30 had registered their names. Since people were facing a stiff challenge in the job market in this competitive world, they could utilise this opportunity. Candidates with educational qualifications of Tenth, Plus Two, degree, diploma and other vocational courses such as nursing, tailoring and driving had shown an interest in attending the fair. Those who had failed in Class Ten could also participate in the programme.
Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP, who was instrumental in organising such programmes, would visit Tuticorin ahead of the job fair for imparting training programmes. In a bid to encourage the stakeholders and to build confidence among them, she would address the participants on a topic “How to achieve success in interview.” The training programme had been scheduled for October 9 in Tuticorin, Kovilpatti and Vilathikulam and on October 10 in Tiruchendur, Sattankulam and Srivaikuntam.
Many private companies, including software firms and textile industries, would recruit candidates at the fair.
