3 killed in accident near Srivilliputtur

Three passengers, including two children, were killed when a cement-laden lorry hit a government bus in which they were travelling near Srivilliputtur on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as K. Ganga (12) of Oothumalai in Tirunelveli district, M. Sanjay (8) of Munnar in Kerala, and P. Thambi (70) of Vandi Periyar in Kerala.

The State-run bus was proceeding to Kumuli from Nagercoil, while the lorry was going from Tiruchi to Kollam. “The lorry driver hit the bus as he tried to overtake a two-wheeler,” Srivilliputtur Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Muralidharan said.

Srivilliputtur Town police arrested bus driver Giji Kumar (50) of Kollam.

Nine injured passengers have been admitted to different government hospitals.
