Water supply to be disrupted next week

There will be no pumping from the Aluva Water Treatment plant on December 1 and 2 because of major works being taken up at the plant. The Aluva Plant, which is the major source of water supply in the city pumping nearly 280 million litres a day, is getting a new water sump with a holding capacity of 10 lakh litres. The plant would be switching the pumping from the old and weathered sump that holds only 3 lakh litres to the new one. The plant shutdown is to facilitate the switching and maintenance of electrical works at the plant. It was earlier decided to shut down the plant on Friday and Saturday. Due to certain technical problems the shutdown was postponed. The shutdown will affect water supply to Kochi Corporation areas including West Kochi, Aluva, Keezhmadu, Edathala, Choornikkara, Kalamassery, Thrikkakara, Eloor, Cheranelloor, Mulavukkad, Elamkunnapuzha, Njarackal, and Kadamakudy,
