Support for Kochi’s smart city campaign

The British government will support the Kochi Corporation in its efforts to qualify as one of the 20 smart cities of the country.

An understanding for supporting the city was reached between the British Deputy High Commissioner Bharath Joshi and Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain, who exchanged documents in the city on Monday, said an official communication.

Local Self Government Department secretary A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish and Ernakulam District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam were present.

Atkins, a British consultancy firm would offer technical support to the city. The agency would spend around Rs. 2.30 crore for the project.

The authorities said the vision document would be finalised in the coming days after discussions with the Kochi Corporation, the Greater Cochin Development Authority and the district administration.
