Strict traffic regulations in Kochi for FIFA event

Crunch time: Owing to tight security measures, the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor will have to cut down the number of spectators for the FIFA under-17 World Cup.

The city traffic police have put in place extensive traffic regulations on Saturday in connection with the kick-off of FIFA Under-17 World Cup matches at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor.

The stretch between Edappally Bypass and High Court Junction along Banerjee Road will be out of bounds for contract carriages and other heavy vehicles, and they will not be permitted to enter Banerjee Road from Palarivattom from 2 p.m. Parking remains completely banned along the stretch.

No parking will be allowed on the road between the main entry up to the stadium and around the stadium up to Karanakkodam Road. Small vehicles carrying spectators should park at the Kerala Water Authority land behind the stadium while bigger vehicles should be parked along the service roads on both sides of the Vytilla-Edappally national highway, Seaport-Airport Road and Container Terminal Road. Only those with car passes will be allowed to park their vehicles on the parking ground at the stadium. The stadium ground will be open only to VIP vehicles.

Smaller vehicles coming from Vypeen and High Court regions should park on St. Albert’s ground. Heavy vehicles from Vypeen and Cheranalloor areas should offload spectators at Kalamassery Premier Junction and Edappally Bypass Junction and park along the Container Terminal Road. Spectators should proceed to stadium using metro or bus services. No vehicles other than service buses will be allowed to enter the city after 2 p.m. along the Goshree Bridges.

Vehicles from Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Kannur should offload spectators at Aluva Manappuram, Aluva metro station, Kalamassery Premier Junction, and Edappally and park along Aluva Manappuram and Container Terminal Road.

Vehicles from Alappuzha, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kottayam should offload spectators at Palarivattom Junction and park along service road on both sides of the Palarivattom-Kundannoor national highway. Passengers from Idukki, Kakkanad, and Muvattupuzha should get down at Palarivattom Junction and their vehicles should be parked along the service road at Palarivattom Bypass Junction.

Vehicles proceeding from Thammanam and Vytilla direction should take the diversion to Samskara Junction from Thammanam Junction and take the Pipeline Road to enter the stadium. Entry will be banned to Karanakkodam Road from Thammanam Junction.

Vehicular traffic will be banned between Kathrukkadavu Junction and Karanakkodam Junction, and Thammanam Junction and Karanakkodam Junction after 9.30 p.m. on October 7, 10, 13 and 18. Parking will be completely banned on the four-lane road leading from Karanakkodam Junction to the rear side of the stadium between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.

More ticket counters

Five additional ticket counters will be opened at the Kochi metro station in front of Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium to cater to the influx of people to witness the matches. But toilets will remain closed since the infrastructure is not designed for such massive crowds.
