Over 250 students from schools in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Idukki districts take part

Edwin Raju of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Chengalam, in Kottayam, and Naveen P. Dileep of Al Ameen Public School, Sreemoolanagaram, emerged winners in the senior and junior categories respectively of The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2016 held at Hotel Le Meridien here on Thursday.

Shayat Ghosh of Kendriya Vidyalaya Rubber Board, Kottayam, and Sheethal Shobi of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, were adjudged the first and second runners-up respectively in the senior category. Madhav Dinesh of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, and Anosh Antony Jose of Greets Public School bagged the second and third prizes in the junior category.

Artists Deepa Gopal and Asha Nandan adjudged the winners. Le Meridien general manager Monica Suri, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.

She also awarded a special prize as GM’s choice comprising a gift hamper and a voucher to Madhav Dinesh.

Thyrocare was the presenting sponsor of the contest and Le Meridien, Kochi, the venue partner. Gift sponsors were Sparky’s and Club Mahindra. Soulfull was the goodies partner. Winners walked away with gift vouchers from Sparky’s and Club Mahindra. Le Meridien gave special prizes to the first prize winners in both categories.

Consolation prizes

Seven consolation prizes were given away in both the categories. Bhagyalakshmi A.B of BVM, Eroor; Gokul Shine Kumar and Anagha K. Augustine of Talent Public School, Njarakkal; Neema Biju of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya; Anjali G. Pillai of BVM, Eroor; Akshara R.A. of St. Mary’s Anglo Indian GHSS, Fort Kochi, and Jahnvi Sreekumar of St. Mary’s Residential Public School, Thiruvalla; won the consolation prizes in the senior category.

Consolation prizes in the junior category went to Theerdha Gopakumar of Vidyodaya Thevakkal, Navaneeth Krishnan of Z.H.M. Bharatiya Vidya Vihar, Changanassery; Angela Susan John of Girideepam Bethany Central School, Kottayam; Parvathy Krishna of NSS HSS, Tripunithura; Hassas Anas. C of MET Public School, Perumbavur, Manual K. Mathew of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya and Sruthi Biju of St. Paul’s International School, Kalamassery.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation by over 250 participants from schools in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Idukki districts.

Topics

The participants were short-listed from over 400 preliminary entries. Participants from Classes 7 to 9 in the senior category were given three topics – ‘Save the girl child,’ ‘My dream home,’ and ‘Kerala, God’s Own Country’ – to choose from. Juniors from Classes V to VI had to choose from the topics — ‘School sports day’, ‘My favourite festival’ and ‘Our animal kingdom’.
