SIB pledges Rs.1 crore to Kochi biennale

August 18, 2016 07:48 am | Updated 07:48 am IST - Kochi:

Just about four months to go for the third edition of the Kochi Muziris Biennale to get under way, the South Indian Bank (SIB) has pledged Rs.1 crore from its CSR fund for the pioneering art initiative which has placed the city on the global art map.

“It’s the grit and determination shown by the Kochi Biennale Foundation that has made it a grand success, with international acclaim. It’s therefore a matter of pride for us to be associated with the upcoming edition of the event,” VG Mathew, SIB managing director and chief executive, said.

A memorandum of understanding between the bank and the foundation was signed between KBF president Bose Krishnamachari and Mr. Mathew at an event held here on Wednesday. The first tranche of the donation was handed over at the event itself. Mr. Mathew said that the bank, based in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, had been associated with numerous cultural initiatives, but the scale and sweep of the biennale was of a different class altogether.
