Good Friday, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary, was observed with great piety at churches all over the city. Christians of all denominations took part in special prayer services, fasting, and processions from their places of worship to mark the occasion.

Devotees remembered the Seven Verses on the Cross that Jesus Christ said on the day he was crucified.

The Way of the Cross processions were also taken out in various parts of the city to commemorate the suffering of Jesus Christ before crucifixion.

Tableaus depicting the arduous journey of Christ were taken out with men dressed as Roman soldiers enacting the whipping of Christ carrying a wooden cross. Devotees observed fasting and rice gruel was served after prayers in some churches in the city.

Cardinal Mar George Alencherry led the prayers at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica.

The prayers at St. Francis Assisi Cathedral were led by Archbishop Francis Kallarakkal. Special prayers were held in various churches in the city. Thousands of pilgrims thronged the popular pilgrim centre of St. Thomas Church at Malayattoor Kurisumudy. Pilgrims carrying crosses climbed the hill, remembering the torment of Jesus Christ.
