A 14-year-old boy who was working as a domestic help at a house near Cheppadu near Kayamkulam in the district for more than a year was rescued by the police and later sent to Mayithara Children’s home near here.

According to Kareelakkulangara Sub Inspector M.K.Rajesh, police conducted a surprise raid at the house following an anonymous complaint. Peethambaran, a KSRTC employee had been employing the boy to look after the cows in his farm since April 2011. He got the boy through his relative who is working in Arunachal Pradesh.

The police, who have registered a suo moto case against Peethambaran for violating Child Labour Act, 2006, also contacted the boy’s father in Arunachal Pradesh. “The salary of the boy was sent to his parents in Arunachal Pradesh. The parents will be coming to Alappuzha to pick up their son soon,” Mr.Rajesh said.

The police later produced the boy before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) here and sent to the Children’s Home at Mayithara. CWC member Abdul Samad said that the boy will soon be reunited with his parents.
