Payasam has become synonymous with Thiruvonam for Malayalis.

Onam celebrations are not complete unless there is the delicious payasam at the end of a sumptuous Onasadya. But gone are the days when they insisted on the delicacy to be made in their own kitchens. Enter ready-to-drink payasams.

And for more than a decade, the Bolgatty Palace Hotel of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has been meeting that demand by organising a payasa mela during the Onam season.

Dominic Presentation, MLA, inaugurated this year's payasa mela on Friday. The special counter being set up near the reception centre at Marine Drive offer fives varieties of payasams – palada , adaprathaman , gothampuprathaman , parippupayasam and pazhampayasam . Besides, there's the famous Ambalapuzha palpayasam.

The staff manning the counter said that over the years the payasa mela had secured a goodwill, winning it a dedicated customer base. They were confident that it would be no different this year as the response on the first day itself was very promising. Two expert chefs have been engaged in the preparation of the payasams in the traditional manner at the hotel. They would keep on preparing payasams in keeping with the demand.

The counter will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. except on Thiruvonam day when it ends. On that day, it would be open from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

Besides, the hotel offers Onasadya. For booking payasams and Onasadya contact 04842750500.
