Hibi Eden, MLA, has urged the Railway authorities to keep their word on the restoration of the Old Railway Station in the city.

In a press release here on Sunday, Mr. Eden said that 40 families living on revenue land needed to be rehabilitated.

There has been a directive from the High Court regarding their rehabilitation. The Railway authorities had earlier given an assurance that the renovation work would be taken up after the rehabilitation. It’s time the Railways took action to fulfil the promise, he said.

Mangalavanam

The MLA also said that starting services from the old railway station should be without damaging the ecologically sensitive Mangalavanam, which is located close to it.

The old railway station has a long history and it is the spot where Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda set foot in Kochi, he noted.

Traffic congestion

The MLA also said that the railway authorities should take into consideration the possible traffic congestion at Pacchalam. Steps should be taken to meet the possible problem, he said.
