MG varsity mulls online facility for entrepreneurs

The Mahatma Gandhi University is planning a digital route to bypass the bureaucratic delays in providing grace marks and attendance relaxation for student entrepreneurs heading campus start-ups in affiliated colleges.

An online facility for the effective implementation of the government’s ambitious student entrepreneurship scheme would be part of the ongoing digitization process at the varsity.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Babu Sebastian told The Hindu the varsity was keenly considering the proposal aimed at encouraging young entrepreneurs and ensuring the effective implementation of the government’s student entrepreneurship policy.

The varsity was among the early birds to implement the directives issued by the Higher Education Department on attendance relaxation and grace marks to eligible student entrepreneurs in its affiliated colleges.

‘No delay’

Dr. Sebastian said four young talents had availed the benefits recently. The university had not been experiencing any delay in processing the requests under the scheme compared to the more number of applications for grace marks under the sports and cultural quota, he said.

The latest proposal would help the young chief executive officers not to run from pillar to post to get the attendance relaxation and grace marks.

The procedure

Student entrepreneurs in affiliated colleges of the varsity could upload the relevant details of their start-up venture on the official website of the university along with the copies of the relevant documents prescribed by the Department of Higher Education as part of the new initiative.

As per the Higher Education Department’s directive, the Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) have to forward the certificate proving the eligibility for grace marks and relaxation in attendance to the principal of the college concerned.

The principal must forward it to the registrar of the university with due recommendations, on receipt of which the university shall provide the eligible grace marks and attendance to the student entrepreneur for the semester for which it is applicable.
