The sea mouth between Fort Kochi and Vypeen will be blockaded at 10 a.m. on Wednesday as part of a State-wide strike on Wednesday in protest against the Dr. B. Meenakumari Committee report on deep sea fishing and a recent decision by the Union government to permit foreign trawlers to operate in Indian waters.

The fisheries industry is also protesting against the proposed Achancoil- Vypar- Pampa link project. Traditional fishermen, boat operators, fish processors and exporters will join the strike, said Charles George, District Convener of Fishermen’s Coordination Committee, representing 11 trade unions in the fisheries industry.
