Experience with Kudumbasree helped on the way to becoming a panchayat member and Minister, says P.K. Jayalakshmi.
Minister for Youth Welfare P.K. Jayalakshmi has said that her experience with Kudumbasree played a big role in her becoming a panchayat member first, and then a member of the State Cabinet.
She was speaking after inaugurating a cultural evening held in connection with the annual celebrations of Kudumbasree here on Friday.
Ms. Jayalakshmi said that many women emerged from the kitchen to the forefront of society after Kudumbasree came in to existence in 1998. It was the emergence of Kudumbasree that enabled many women to start a bank account and gave them the courage to perform in various organisations.
The Minister said that entrepreneurial ventures that ensure the stability of the family should be launched in every sector.
In his presidential address V.D. Satheeshan, MLA, said that alcoholism was expanding its tentacles in society. It is always the women who are left to bear its ill effects, he said. Mr. Satheeshan said that the institution of family will be in the doldrums unless an arrangement is in place whereby half the earnings of the bread winner is deposited in the account of their wives.
K.M. Shaji, MLA, delivered the keynote address. District panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappillil, standing committee chairpersons of Kochi Corporation T.J. Vinod, Soumini Jain, Ratnamma Raju, and R. Thyagarajan, Kudumbasree governing committee member S.P. Kunjahammed were present.
