KMRL seeks written undertaking from textile firm

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has insisted on an unconditional written undertaking from Seematti Textiles if the 32 cents of land owned by the firm on M.G. Road has to be acquired under negotiated purchase and not under provisions of the Land Acquisition Act for Kochi metro.

The undertaking must clarify that the firm is willing to abide by the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding, the terms of which were finalised a few weeks ago. The KMRL made its stand clear following reports that the firm is once again keen on signing an MoU with the KMRL for surrendering the land. The development comes in the backdrop of the KMRL and the district administration warning of forcible acquisition in case the textile firm did not surrender land since numerous deadlines set to hand over the land had expired.
