Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the State’s first employability centre at the district employment exchange here on Monday.
Mr. Chandy said the State government is giving shape to new innovative projects realising the futility of unemployment wages, and hollow declarations.
He recollected that it was he as the labour minister in the A.K. Antony Cabinet who introduced unemployment wages. The increased registration in employment exchanges had failed to resolve unemployment.
Mr. Chandy hoped that the employment centres would help fill the void resulting from lack of continuous training and eligibility for jobs despite high educational qualifications of prospective candidates.
The employability centres will help make prospective young candidates fit for jobs by improving language and communication skills, and developing personality.
Employment exchanges at Kollam, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode districts will be initially elevated into employability centres. Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said more than pointing out jobs to job aspirants, the employability centres would develop them into candidates fit for those jobs.
Various programmes to help improve the skill of job aspirants in the construction, nursing, security, jewellery making, oil and natural gas sectors will be introduced shortly.
