District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam has been adjudged the winner of this year’s Jalamitram award instituted by Youth Hostels Association.

The award is in recognition of his contributions towards water conservation. Former High Court Judge P.S. Gopinath will give away the award at a function to be held at Children’s Park theatre on Sunday. Former High Court Judge P.K. Shamsudeen will preside over the function.

Several projects, including his innovative ‘ Ente Kulam Ernakulam ’ project aimed at the rejuvenation and conservation of abandoned water bodies in the district were the basis for bestowing him with the award, said association State president Jain George and secretary A.K. Rajan. Volunteers of Anbodu Kochi, a voluntary organisation in the forefront of the water conservation project, will also be felicitated on the occasion.
