The Home Department aims at introducing a uniform security mechanism for IT parks in the State.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala’s visit to Infopark to interact with IT employees and Infopark authorities on Friday is being seen as part of a larger plan. For, the Minister had visited Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram earlier this year for similar interactions with stakeholders. Both the visits were jointly organised by the Home Department, the Kerala Police and the Group of Technology Companies (Gtech) with Infopark and Technopark authorities playing hosts.
Sources said a similar initiative might be tried out at Kozhikode-based Cyber Park. The employee strength of Cyber Park is only a fraction of that of Technopark and Infopark, which have about 50,000 and 20,000 employees respectively.
Mr. Chennithala’s visit to Infopark has given a fresh lease of life to the long pending proposal for setting up a full-fledged cyber police station on the campus. Despite the Infopark offering 45 cents for the proposed station, hardly any progress was made in setting it up during the past more than four years.
It is learnt that the Minister has already entrusted the construction of the proposed station with the Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation and the formalities are likely to be completed in the coming days. The station is expected to be up and running within six to nine months. The 50-member strong station is likely to have both law and order and cyber security enforcement units.
Technopark had allocated 2,200 sq. ft space for the proposed Cyber Dome to tackle cyber crimes. Bike patrolling, already introduced on Technopark campus, is set to be launched at Infopark shortly. Gtech, which had donated two motorcycles for patrolling, has promised to donate one to the police department for round-the-clock patrolling of the Infopark campus.
The measures are aimed at enhancing the confidence of employees while serving as an effective deterrent against crimes. Infopark has also been promised a police aid post and a prepaid autorickshaw stand similar to the ones already operational at Technopark.
