The ESI Hospital, Eloor, will ask the State Medical Commissioner of the ESI Corporation to conduct a high-level inquiry into the denial of admission to a pregnant woman at an empanelled hospital. The decision was taken at the Hospital Development Committee meeting held on Tuesday.
The woman with burn injuries had died later after she was admitted to another hospital on the intervention of the District Collector.
Other decisions
The committee wants to develop the institution into a specialist hospital with the services of cardiologists, nephrologists and gastroenterologists. It also plans to set up an intensive care unit at the hospital.
“It is a matter of concern that the 135-bed hospital located in the industrial belt of the district does not have an ICU,” said V. Radhakrishnan, central board member of the ESI Corporation. The hospital superintendent had been asked to prepare a project report for the developmental activities, he added.
The hospital would also look into the vacancies of doctors, he said. “Doctors will be appointed on contract basis till the vacancies are filled,” he added.
