Finance Minister K.M. Mani has assured poultry farmers that he will look into the issue of tax on poultry birds.

At an interactive session with farmers at the ongoing Poultry Expo here, Mr. Mani said he would soon convene a meeting of farmers to sort out the issue. He said the recent budgetary allocation of Rs. 4 crore for starting a parent stock supply facility in Kasaragod would help change the poultry production scenario in the State.

Earlier in the day, experts leading a seminar-cum-interactive session for poultry farmers called for adoption of industry-scale farming to overcome the problems faced by the sector.

C. Jalaludheen, assistant director of the government poultry farm at Chathamangalam, said it was time Kerala farmers adopted the models in Europe and the Gulf countries, where large-scale farms operate profitably, providing employment to thousands of people.
